T2 to face Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 in 2016 USL home opener on Saturday

PORTLAND, Ore. – T2 will play host to Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 in their 2016 USL home opener on Saturday, April 2, at Merlo Field; kickoff is set for 7 p.m. (Pacific).


The match on Saturday marks the first of four regular-season meetings scheduled for T2 and Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 in 2016, as both teams are set to meet again on May 20, June 19 and Sept. 18. During the 2015 USL campaign, the teams split the regular-season series, with T2 and Vancouver winning their respective home games. T2 recorded a combined seven goals in a pair of wins in Portland, defeating Vancouver 4-2 on July 19 and 3-1 on Aug. 19.


T2 (0-0-1, 0pts) enter the weekend after sustaining a 2-1 loss to Swope Park Rangers in their opening game of the 2016 USL campaign. After threatening the Rangers goal on several occasions in the second half, T2 recorded their first goal of the season when midfielder Nick Besler slotted forward Kharlton Belmar’s cross past Swope Park Rangers goalkeeper Jon Kempin and into the back of the net.


Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 (1-0-0, 3pts) venture into Saturday’s fixture after defeating Orange County Blues FC 1-0 at Anteater Stadium in Irvine, Calif. Striker Kyle Greig scored the game-winner in the 59th minute of play, heading midfielder Mitch Piraux’s cross into the back of the net.

Following Saturday’s game, T2 will play host to expansion side Rio Grande Valley FC on April 8 and Sacramento Republic FC on April 17 at Merlo Field.
