Thorns FC on International Duty: International Friendlies, EURO qualifiers

In total 10 Thorns FC players could see the field on international duty in this upcoming FIFA window. Six players are in camp with the United States, Christine Sinclair heads home as Canada plays host to Brazil twice and three players are in Europe for 2017 EURO qualifiers for their respective countries, including Amandine Henry, who is fresh off her third UEFA Women’s Champions League title win.

United States

The U.S. Women’s National Team convened in Denver ahead of a pair of international friendlies against Japan, starting with a match at Dick’s Sporting Good Park on Thursday, June 2. The team then heads to Cleveland, Ohio, for another match-up with Japan on Sunday, June 5.

Canada

The Thorns FC forward continues her quest to become the all-time leading goal scorer in the history of international soccer, male or female, sitting at 162 career goals as she aims to chase down Abby Wambach (184).


Canada's friendlies against Brazil will not have a broadcast in the United States, but fans in Canada can watch the games live on TSN. For updates follow, @CanadaSoccerEN on Twitter.

2017 UEFA Women’s EURO 2017 qualifiers

The group winners and the six best runners-ups (not counting results against the fifth-place teams) will qualify for the tournament. The other two runners-up will compete in a playoff over two legs from Oct. 17-25 for the final berth. For more information, click here

France already punched its ticket to UEFA Women’s EURO 2017 in April, but Henry and Les Bleus are in action in Group 3.

Denmark

In a tightly-contested Group 4, Denmark is currently tied for third in the group with Poland on seven points. Slovakia holds a slight edge with nine points in second place.

Iceland

Iceland is sitting comfortably in second place in Group 1, just three points behind group leader Scotland and six points ahead of third-place Slovenia.
