#StatMan Three | A brace of braces for the Portland Timbers in MLS opening win over Minnesota

The Portland Timbers started the 2017 season in an emphatic way, defeating expansion Minnesota United FC 5-1 Friday night at a rain-soaked Providence Park. Here are three #StatMan takeaways from the match. 


2X2 For the first time in Timbers MLS history, two Portland players scored two goals in the same match. Both Diego Valeri and Fanendo Adi notched second-half braces with Adi's goals coming just two minutes apart. 


4 The four-goal margin of victory was the largest win in a season opener for the Timbers since the club's NASL era. The 5-1 win also ties for the biggest win at Providence Park for Portland in MLS with a 4-0 victory over Toronto FC in 2013. 


3,115 Playing for the Timbers in a regular-season game for the first time since the USL era, Lawrence Olum scored in his MLS debut for Portland. Olum's goal was his first for the Rose City since Aug. 22, 2008, a span of 3,115 days.
