Our community work with Thorns FC uses sport and activity as a lens through which we support and collaborate with organizations that empower, educate, and build confidence in girls and young women.
Rose City Readers: Thorns FC launched the Rose City Readers program at Alder Elementary School in the fall of 2013 in partnership with I Have A Dream - Oregon. Rose City Readers pairs Thorns FC players with 3rd grade students in group and 1 to 1 reading sessions with a goal of sharing excitement around reading and improving students' reading ability.
Nonprofit Partner: Girls, Inc.
Girls Inc of Northwest Oregon (Girls Inc) exists to inspire all girls to be strong, smart and bold. Girls Inc. is a targeted, gender specific program working to improve the lives of girls ages 8-18 years old. In 2013 the Thorns worked with Girls Inc through support at their Power of the Purse, Mind + Body fair, and International Day of the Girl events, the Girls of the Game program and Rose Ceremony at each Thorns FC match, and with the Thorns FC logo reveal.
The Thorns support Girls Inc as well as other fantastic local organizations through the following Stand Together programs - please click on the links below to learn about how an organization you support can connect with the Thorns!
