The Portland Timbers and Portland Thorns FC are excited to launch the new Stand Together Global Assists program in 2014, which supports international sport (soccer) and social change programs. For each assist during the Portland Timbers and Portland Thorns FC 2014 regular season home and away matches, One World Futbol and Stand Together will donate a nearly indestructible ball to a Mercy Corps or Grassroot Soccer program working with underprivileged communities around the world.  In addition, Stand Together will coordinate sending balls to global communities with our players in the off-season.

One World Futbol
brings the healing power of play to youth worldwide by making, selling and distributing ultra durable One World Futbols, soccer balls that survive the harshest environments. Collaborating with sponsors, organizations and individuals, One World Futbol Project delivers balls to disadvantaged communities where play and sport are used to foster social change.

Grassroot Soccer
uses the power of soccer to educate, inspire, and mobilize communities to stop the spread of HIV. Their vision is a world mobilized through soccer to create an AIDS free generation.

Mercy Corps Sport for Change
programs promote health awareness, accelerate psychological healing in areas affected by natural disasters and conflict, further social inclusion and cohesion, and contribute to economic development through a variety of sport-based activities.

Global Assists supports Stand Together’s work to improve the lives of youth through sport in high needs communities, in this case globally, often in places where our players come from. The program intends to continue to help grow the sport of soccer and leverage the impactful work that our players, Mercy Corps, Grassroot Soccer, and One World Futbol are doing globally.
