Axe Portrait FAQ

In 2011, as part our billboard campaign to announce the Timbers debut in Major League Soccer, we took professional portraits of Timbers supporters holding axes. We're excited to announce that this year, in celebration of our 10th year in MLS, we’re holding this special event again, as we do every five years. The free photo shoots, open to everyone, will take place over three days – January 25, 26, and February 1 -- at Providence Park.

And yes, you once again have the chance to be on your very own billboard, as voted by you, our supporters.

Here’s how it works…

10 am – 6 pm: Saturday, Jan. 25, and Saturday, Feb. 1
10 am – 5 pm: Sunday, January 26

Please enter through Gate D on the northeast side of Providence Park at the corner of Morrison and 18th. Attendees will be photographed on a first-come, first-served basis.

Do I need to bring anything?
No. We will provide the axes. You are welcome to bring your own DIY items as long as they are safe, appropriate and adhere to our stadium policies. Props like this are encouraged.

When will I receive my photo?
Approximately two weeks from your shoot date. We will load them onto a web platform and alert you via email when they are ready to be downloaded.

Can I make an appointment?
No, everyone will be photographed on a first-come, first-served basis.

Can I take more than one photo?
Due to the expected high turnout, and to ensure we can take everyone’s photo, you will be limited to one photo.

Can I bring my pet(s)?
Pets aren't allowed into Providence Park so please leave your furry friends at home.

When will the billboard contest start?
We plan to start the voting in early to mid-February with the billboard projected to be displayed in early March in downtown Portland.

How many people can be photographed at one time?
Given the limited space near the backdrop, we advise no more than four people per photo.

What else?

  • Select concession stands will be open during the shoot with food and beverages specials available.
  • The event will feature an open pitch, where supporters will be able to play on the field and take their own photos.
  • FIFA gaming stations will be set up to play.
