The Portland Timbers constructed as part of a 10-year partnership with Tualatin Hills Park & Recreation District (THPRD), a new Timbers Training Center as the primary on-field training ground for the Major League Soccer club, complementing the first-class training and fitness facilities already in place at Providence Park.
Originally opened in 2012 and expanded in 2017, the club’s training center is over 24,000 square feet in size. The training center, located on THPRD property in Beaverton approximately 10 minutes from Providence Park, includes a full-sized natural-grass field and a synthetic, FieldTurf field. The grass field is a combination of 75 percent perennial ryegrass and 25 percent Kentucky bluegrass, a blend well-suited for cooler climates and one that provides dense, uniform cover, and greater stability, footing and durability.
The complex also features a state-of-the-art weight room, a film theatre room for game study and match prep, a gourmet kitchen and commissary with players’ lounge, expanded primary and auxiliary locker rooms, four training tubs with expansive treatment areas, a coaches’ area and offices, and a new media studio space all highlighted by skylights for natural light and wood finishes throughout in a modern clean design.
