With 16 games in Week 17, MLSsoccer.com was spoiled for choice when it came to nominees for the AT&T MLS Goal of the Week award. Having narrowed it down to five (not without some controversy), it’s time for you to pick the winner!
Darlington Nagbe was one of the Portland Timbers' main weapons in their 4-1 "Chainsaw Massacre" victory over archrival Seattle Sounders, and his thumping hit from long distance has earned a richly-deserved GOTW nomination.
Elsewhere, Toronto FC striker Jozy Altidore kicked things off this week with a clinical left-footed strike in TFC's 3-1 Rivalry Week win over the Montreal Impact last Wednesday. Latching on to a precise long pass from his US national team colleague Michael Bradley, Altidore hammered an angled finish past Evan Bush to help secure all three points for the host Reds.
Olmes Garcia's tap-in to cap a gorgeously executed Real Salt Lake set-piece routine is also in the running. It's a goal born from hours spent honing small details on the training ground, and it's worth a second or third (or fourth) viewing.
Chris Wondolowski was central to the San Jose Earthquakes' dazzling comeback win over the LA Galaxy in the latest installment of the California Clasico on Saturday night, and his expertly-dispatched first-timer into the top corner is up for your vote.
Rounding out this week's GOTW crop is Bradley Wright-Phillips. The New York Red Bulls' English marksman hit both his team's goals in last month's 2-1 win over New York City FC, and he hit the net with a vicious volley to send RBNY on their way to a comeback 3-1 win in Sunday's crosstown clash.
