International Notebook | Thorns FC's Horan and Long combine for goal in USWNT's 6-0 win over South Korea

In international action, Portland Thorns FC’s Lindsey Horan, Allie Long and the U.S. Women’s National Team dominated South Korea in a Sunday afternoon 6-0 rout.

Horan started and went the full 90 in the match earning two assists, while Long came on as a second-half substitution and scored a goal in her 45-minute performance. The U.S. scored in the third, 20th and 35th minute thanks to a brace by Samantha Mewis and a goal by Alex Morgan, before Horan teamed up with Julie Ertz in first-half stoppage time for the the Yanks’ fourth goal of the half.

Long entered the match in the second half and scored a goal of her own—following Lynn Williams’ tap-in in the 61st minute—thanks to an assist from Thorns-teammate, Horan.

In the 83rd Horan corralled the ball after clearance from Korea’s goalkeeper and took a first touch before sending it on to Long through the box. Long one-timed a redirect to the right of the keeper scoring the sixth goal of the match and netting her third international goal of the year.

Tuesday, in Womens’ World Cup Qualifying action, Dagny Brynjarsdóttir and Iceland traveled to play Czech Republic where they drew the host 1-1. Bryjarsdóttir started for Iceland, going the full 90 and scoring her team’s lone goal in the contest.

Dagny’s goal came in the 44th minute, just before the break and marks her third international goal in the past two games. Czech Republic was able to work their way back into the match, scoring in the 63rd minute, drawing the visitors and salvaging a point at home. With the draw, Iceland and the Czech Republic pull into a share of second place in Group 5, where the seven-point teams trail first-place Germany in the standings by two points.
