Timbers Goalscorers Make History
With midfielder Diego Valeri's final goal of the season – his 14th – the Portland Timbers entered elite MLS company, becoming just the 10th team in league history to have multiple players score 14 or more goals in a single season.
Valeri was joined by teammate Fanendo Adi, who finished the season tied for fourth in goals scored in MLS with 16. That number matched his output from 2015 and made the Nigerian international the third-youngest player in MLS history to have consecutive 16-goal seasons.
Since joining the Timbers midway through the 2014 season, Adi has scored an astounding 41 goals for the team.
For his part, Valeri's 14 goals was an MLS-career high. He had previously scored 11 goals during his first season with the team in 2013.
