2021 Stand Together Week | Timbers and Thorns players fan out with volunteers at projects

The 10th Annual Stand Together Week began this Sunday and is running all week with Portland Timbers and Thorns FC players and staff joining volunteers at projects across the city.

With the help of partners Alaska Airlines, Coca-Cola, Daimler, Danner Boots, Safeway, Providence Sports Medicine, and Umpqua Bank, 20 volunteer projects benefiting organizations focused on youth, the environment, and social equity are offered across the Portland metro area.

The volunteer opportunities affiliated with Stand Together Week, named after the Timbers and Thorns' community outreach platform, Stand Together, include taking care of community gardens, cleaning up local parks, feeding meals to those in need, and more.

SATURDAY, SEPT. 11 - Our House of Portland, SOLVE

The final day of 2021 Stand Together Week came to a close with volunteers from Alaska Airlines and Providence Health and Services teaming up with Timber Joey to improve and clean up the grounds around Our House of Portland while Stand Together Ambassador Nat Borchers led a team with SOLVE to assist in cleaning up Powell Park and the surrounding neighborhood.

FRIDAY, SEPT. 10 - Friends of Trees, Chelsea Hicks Foundation

Longtime Stand Together partner, Friends of Trees welcomed Timber Joey and volunteers today to help with a tree care work party at Gateway Green Park.

Elsewhere, volunteers from Coca-Cola and Providence Health and Services joined Stand Together Ambassador Jack Jewsbury at Chelsea's Closet to help the Chelsea Hicks Foundation with costumes, craft project boxes, toy packs and more.

THURSDAY, SEPT. 9 - Friends of Zenger Farms, Children's Book Bank, Schoolhouse Supplies, Transition Projects

Though Stand Together Week was heading into the stretch run, volunteers kept up the pace with more projects.

Timber Joey joined volunteers from Providence Health and Services at Zenger Farms to remove unwanted grass and invasive plants from the farm while Umpqua Bank volunteers joined Stand Together Ambassador Nat Borchers to assist with cleaning and restoring books at the Children's Book Bank.

Umpqua Bank had another group meet up with Stand Together Ambassador Jack Jewsbury at Schoolhouse Supplies to help get school packs together for kids returning to school and closing out the day. Over at Veterans Memorial Coliseum, Thorns players Crystal Dunn, Sophia Smith, Abby Smith and Rocky RodrĆ­guez alongside goalkeeping coach Nadine Angerer and assistant coach Sophie Clough all joined volunteers to help Transition Projects at the set up for the Portland Veterans Stand Down event ā€“ a resource, employment and wellness fair for Veterans at risk of homelessness.

WEDNESDAY, SEPT. 8 - Portland Fruit Tree Project, Virginia Garcia Memorial Health Center & Foundation, Project Lemonade

Wednesday saw Timber Joey, aptly, helping with some backyard harvesting with the Portland Fruit Tree Project before the Chara brothers ā€“ Diego and Yimmi ā€“ headed out to help alongside Thorns assistant coach Rich Gunney and players Madison Pogarch and Christen Westphal with gardening and painting of the Cornelius Wellness Center of the Virginia Garcia Memorial Health Center & Foundation.

The day wrapped up with Thorns head coach Mark Parsons and midfielder Lindsey Horan working with Timbers George Fochive and Bill Tuiloma as well as club president of business Mike Golub with sorting shoes at the Retail Store of Foster Youth for Project Lemonade.

TUESDAY, SEPT. 7 - Hoyt Arboretum, Habitat for Humanity, Impact NW, Ronald McDonald House Charities of Oregon and SW Washington

Timbers and Thorns FC owner and CEO Merritt Paulson joined Stand Together Ambassador Jack Jewsbury as well as volunteers from Providence Health and Services at Hoyt Arboretum today to help with tree and trail care.

Umpqua Bank volunteers worked alongside Timber Joey and Stand Together Ambassador Nat Borchers at Habitat for Humanity's ReStore while Timbers Diego Valeri, Josecarlos Van Rankin, Felipe Mora and Jaroslaw Niezgoda teamed up with Thorns Angela Salem, Emily Menges and Tyler Lussi at Impact NW to help build school learning kits for area students.

In the evening, Timbers midfielder SebastiƔn Blanco visited the Ronald McDonald House to help with their Meals from the Heart program.

MONDAY, SEPT. 6 - Grow Portland, Ronald McDonald House Charities of Oregon and SW Washington

Day 2 of 2021 Stand Together Week brought Thorns Madison Pogarch, Shelby Hogan, Meghan Klingenberg, Christine Sinclair, Bella Bixby and Becky Sauerbrunn out with volunteers to Menlo Park Elementary with Grow Portland to beautify Menlo Park's Learning Garden.

Elsewhere, Timbers head coach Giovanni Savarese and goalkeeper Steve Clark visited the Ronald McDonald House to help volunteers from Providence Health and Services prepare meals as part of the Meals from the Heart program.

SUNDAY, SEPT. 5 - Harper's Playground, Brown Hope

Thorns Olivia Moultrie and Meagan Nally joined volunteers from the 107 Independent Supporters Trust at Harper's Playground helping clean up this unique park.

Elsewhere, in two shifts at Brown Hope, Morgan Weaver, Marissa Everett, Hannah Betfort, Yazmeen Ryan, Natalia Kuikka and Celeste Boureille as well as Crystal Dunn and Thorns coaches Mark Parsons, Richard Gunney and Sophie Clough all helped with the organization's Donation Drive for Social Justice! program.
