PORTLAND, Ore.
– Portland Timbers midfielder Hugo Alcaraz-Cuellar today was named to the USL First Division Team of the Week for Week Six.
Alcaraz-Cuellar earned the honors after tallying an assist in Saturday’s 1-0 win over the Minnesota Thunder. The Timbers broke the deadlock in the 34th minute when Alcaraz-Cuellar grabbed a loose ball near midfield. He dribbled the ball up, then crossed it into the Minnesota penalty area. Forward Byron Alvarez got on the end of the ball and his header sailed past Thunder goalkeeper Joe Warren and into the net.
The accolades are the first this season for Alcaraz-Cuellar, who was named to the Team of the Week three times in 2005.
Up next, the Timbers have a home-and-home weekend series against the Seattle Sounders. Portland opens the series with a 7 p.m. match on Friday, June 2, in Seattle. The Timbers will then host the visiting Sounders on Saturday, June 3, with kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m. at PGE Park.
