Brent Sancho transferred to Dundee FC

PORTLAND, Ore.
- The Portland Timbers announced today the transfer of defender Brent Sancho to Dundee FC of the Scottish Premier League. The transfer followed a successful appeal by Sancho to obtain a Scottish work permit. Terms of the sale were not disclosed.




"We are pleased to announce the transfer of Brent Sancho to Dundee FC of the Scottish Premier League," said Timbers general manager Jim Taylor. "It's difficult to see a player of Sancho's considerable skill and popularity leave the club. However, developing players and advancing them on is a goal of every A-League franchise and we're pleased to have achieved that with Brent. We greatly appreciate the contributions he made to the Timbers during the 2001 and 2002 seasons and wish him all the best in Europe."




Sancho, a native of Trinidad, was a key component of the Timbers defense for two seasons, logging 51 games over the 2001 and 2002 campaigns. As an anchor of the defensive back line, Sancho's speed and athleticism were crucial to the Timbers' defensive success.




Sancho has not played with the Timbers this season, as the team allowed him to play for the Trinidad and Tobago National Team in order to obtain the necessary caps to earn a Scottish work permit.




Dundee FC, a top-tier club in European soccer, won the Scottish Cup in 1962 and was a 1-0 win over Celtic in the 1974 League Cup final. The club placed sixth in the 12-team Scottish Premier League last season.
