By the Numbers | Rasmussen debut among a host of key of firsts in victory over Austin FC

Powered by a second half goal from defender Bill Tuiloma, the Portland Timbers defeated Austin FC 1-0 Saturday night at Providence Park. Here are some key numbers to know from the match.

It was a night of firsts for Portland. The Timbers picked up their first win of the season in the victory over Austin. It was also the team’s first clean sheet of the year while also being the first shutout of goalkeeper Aljac Ivacic’s MLS career. Defender Bill Tuiloma scored his first goal of 2022. Finally, the night marked the MLS debut of three different players: defender Justin Rasmussen – who started and played 90 minutes – along with midfielder David Ayala and forward Diego Gutierrez. Ayala and Gutierrez both came on in the second half to help lock down the win.

In his first MLS start, Rasmussen led the team with nine recoveries and tied for most crosses with four. The 2022 MLS SuperDraft first round pick was also second on the team with total touches (64).

Coming into the night, Austin FC led MLS in goals scored with 10 but the Timbers held them scoreless while not allowing a single shot on target in the match.

Timbers midfielder Diego Chara, often known more for committing fouls rather than suffering them, tied an individual career high with six fouls suffered in the match – also a team high on the night.
