Midfielder Josh Cameron covers Week 6 of the Portland Timbers preseason training camp, detailing the highlight of the week – a 3-2 preseason win over the Sounders FC reserves.
Josh’s latest edition of the Camp Report:
Welcome back, here’s another update on preseason training ... Week number six is moving along smoothly as we prepare for another preseason match on Saturday night at Pacific University.
As you might have seen on the website, we defeated the Seattle Sounders on Monday 3-2. It was a pretty good game to watch … We were able to put three goals away, a preseason match high. That output was great to see especially after the work we put in at practice last week on the offensive side of the ball. Monday started out with a little drive from PGE Park up to Seattle. We got to the facility and got dressed and went out to warm up. The game started off a little sluggish but once we got comfortable things calmed down and we played very well. We kept great possession, we were strong defensively and dangerous going forward. We were able to tuck two away in the first half, one from Keith (Savage) and a nice strike from the top of the 18 by Tony (McManus).
The second half was not as strong as the first half for us, we gave up two goals that we as a team were not happy about, but were also able to get another one from (Mandjou) Keita. Both teams had a few chances in the second half and we were able to stay strong and come out with a victory over a very solid team. Offensively we were very pleased; defensively we felt we gave them a couple. Things happen and we move on. On our way back we stopped and ate, (David) Hayes, Mu (Mutanda Kwesele) and I went to this amazing teriyaki place and had some great food. (That’s for you Hayes)
We will continue training for the week on Thursday and Friday before another match on Saturday in preparation for our opener next week in Vancouver. It’s hard to believe we’ve been in camp for almost a month and half now. I’m excited and ready to get the season started and I know the other guys are too.
Until next time… Take care.
