Portland, the reigning Cascadia Cup holders, need a win Wednesday to stay in the running
As the Portland Timbers prepare for Wednesday's match against Vancouver Whitecaps FC (7:30pm PT, MLS Season Pass) with Audi 2025 MLS Cup Playoff implications on the line, there's an additional aspect to the game: The Cascadia Cup
What is the Cascadia Cup?
First contested in 2004, the supporters-created regional competition pits Portland, Seattle and Vancouver in a Pacific Northwest rivalry competition for the Cascadia Cup with regular season matches contributing to a three-team table. Now in it's 21st year, the competition spans two levels of the North American soccer landscape with it being active during the three clubs' United Soccer League and Major League Soccer eras. After Seattle entered MLS in 2009, Vancouver and Portland continued the competition while still in the USL until both teams joined MLS in 2011, returning it to a three-club rivalry.
Portland, the reigning Cascadia Cup holders, won their sixth trophy and fourth of their MLS era during last year's campaign.
2025 Cascadia Cup Standings

While Vancouver are in a commanding spot on six points and could capture the Cup Wednesday with a draw or a win, Portland could rally should they defeat the Whitecaps tomorrow night, have Vancouver lose on Sept. 27 against Seattle and then the Timbers would need to defeat the Sounders on Oct. 4 at Lumen Field.
