Though the Portland Timbers’ 3-1 loss to the LA Galaxy last Saturday night brought the team’s losing streak to three, there were a few bright spots in the match. Kris Boyd’s first half goal showed a skilled and clinical finish and he had another equally skilled volley for a goal that was called offsides.
However, it was the return of Hanyer Mosquera to the lineup that had Timbers fans take notice. After missing the past two matches due to a fractured orbital bone and concussion sufferend against FC Dallas, the Colombian centerback displayed timely tackles, solid positioning, and a commanding presence on the backline throughout the match. The performance was clearly noticed by Timbers fans as Mosquera picked up an overwhelming 69% of the vote.
