While the Portland Timbers lost last night against storied Dutch club AFC Ajax 2-0, the game presented some energetic play on both sides of the ball and, for Timbers head coach John Spencer, a chance to experiment with a 4-3-3 formation.
Placed at the top of the attack in a different role was midfielder Sal Zizzo. Often utilized as a outside wing during the season, Zizzo began the game in the forward position and provided some quick and slicing runs through the Ajax defense in the first half. Despite the final score, his play excited the crowd and as the fans have voted, he is the CenturyLink Man of the Match.
