The Portland Timbers took on a giant of Argentine football with Independiente and played them to a 2-0 victory at JELD-WEN Field giving the home side their first victory in the 2011 exhibition friendlies on the season.
Fired up early on, Sal Zizzo scored off of a beautifully weighted ball from teammate Eddie Johnson. Threatening throughout the night, head coach John Spencer said of the midfielder, "If I was a scout watching the game, I would put a bid in for him. I thought he was magnificent."
So did the fans. With 81.74% of the vote, Zizzo was the clear winner of the CenturyLink Man of the Match against Independiente.
