In one of the biggest wins this season, the Timbers showcased the attacking skills and defensive composure necessary to overcome one of the league's top teams. Mike Chabala, Jorge Perlaza and Eric Brunner found the back of the net as Portland routed the Galaxy 3-0 and snapped LA's 14-game unbeaten streak on Wednesday night at JELD-WEN Field.
Defender Mike Chabala, acquired in a trade with Houston two weeks ago, ignited the Portland offense when he combined with midfielder Darlington Nagbe down the left side. Chabala unleashed a cracking shot from the edge of the penalty area that beat Galaxy goalkeeper Josh Saunders and put Portland ahead 1-0 in the 26th minute. Chabala's work in the midfield and in defense also helped the Timbers keep a clean sheet against LA's dynamic strike force. With just more than 71 percent of the vote, Mike Chabala is the CenturyLink Man of the Match.
