CenturyLink Man of the Match vs. Philadelphia: David Horst

MOTM @ Union, David Horst

The Portland Timbers extended their unbeaten streak to three games and stayed in the thick of the playoff hunt with a 0-0 draw on the road at the Philadelphia Union on Saturday at PPL Park in Chester, Pa. A strong defensive performance by the back line and goalkeeper Troy Perkins kept the Union off the scoreboard and helped the Timbers earn a point on the road, something that has proved difficult for the squad this season.

Defender David Horst served as an integral part of a Timbers back line that helped keep the Union, who had recently come back from down three goals against New England earlier in the week to earn a 4-4 draw, off the board for 90 minutes. Horst, who grew up just two hours up the road in Pine Grove, Pa., cleared away several crosses and was strong in the box in support of Perkins. With nearly 45 percent of the vote, Horst edges out midfielder Jack Jewsbury for the CenturyLink Man of the Match honors.

David Horst - 44.50%

Jack Jewsbury - 39.83%

Eric Brunner - 11.01%

Kalif Alhassan - 4.23%
