CONCACAF Champions League: Goals via Social | Portland Timbers vs. Alpha United FC | Sept. 23, 2014

Jack Jewsbury, Timbers vs. Alpha, 9.23.14

As the first day of fall descended on the Rose City with a light rain in Providence Park, the Portland Timbers hosted Guyana's Alpha United in the CONCACAF Champions League.

After controlling much of the possession in the early moments, Timbers defender Michael Harrington carried down the left wing before looping a cross into the box. Midfielder Jack Jewsbury received it with some clever footwork before slotting it home to give the Timbers a 1-0 lead.

Portland continued to dominate the run of play and in the 36th minute, they were rewarded once again. Forward Maximiliano Urruti flew down the right sideline before whipping a perfect cross into the box. Gastón Fernández split the defenders with a slippery run to easily hammer home the ball and give the Timbers a 2-0 lead. He'll get a log slice postgame.

With the second half underway, the Timbers found themselves with back to back corners. In the 49th minute, Michael Nanchoff played a short corner to Ben Zemanski who then slid a pass back to him as he ran on to the ball before letting fly with a wicked left foot golazo to give the Timbers a 3-0 lead.

In the 61st minute, Norberto Paparatto opened his Timbers acount via a well taken corner from Nanchoff. Paparatto was unmarked at the six and headed the ball in for a 4-0 Timbers lead.

After coming on in the 72nd minute, Fanendo Adi receives a short pass from Rodney Wallace in the six-yard box. Adi completely muscles the Alpha defender to hold the ball, turn and then fire the ball into the roof of the net and a 5-0 Timbers lead.

In the 88th minute, Paparatto added another. Final score: 6-0 for the Timbers.
