CONCACAF Champions League | Guyana Journal: Day 1

Guyana Day 1, 8.17.14

GEORGETOWN, Guyana – After flying approximately 2,700 miles from Boston with a brief refueling stop in Puerto Rico, the Portland Timbers arrived in Georgetown, Guyana, Sunday evening ahead of their Tuesday night opening group stage match against Alpha United FC in the 2014-14 CONCACAF Champions League (5pm PT, FOX Soccer Plus).

Following Saturday night's 1-1 draw with the New England Revolution in MLS play, the team joined head coach Caleb Porter and team staff Sunday morning aboard a charter to fly to South America.

The mood was positive on the flight and a local delegation greeted the squad upon their evening arrival at Cheddi Jagan International Airport. A police escort cleared the way for the caravan en route to the Timbers’ team hotel. Wayne Dover, head coach of Alpha United FC, was at the hotel to welcome Porter and the squad.

Monday's schedule includes a training session in Georgetown to prepare for Tuesday evening's match.
