Matchday

Congratulations to our July 5th Axe Society Member of the Match – Brennan Burns!

Axe Society, 7.8.17

As part of our inaugural group of ticket holders, Brennan and Yvonne won the chance to have a VIP experience for the Portland Timbers vs. Chicago Fire match, including KeyBank Club seats, and a chance to visit with Timber Joey on the field!

We asked Brennan a few questions after the match.

What was your first memory of/first match supporting the Timbers?
"
My first memory of supporting the Timbers was going to matches in the late 70's/early 80's with my Dad and older brother. My Dad coached our first rec teams and I've been hooked on the game ever since."

What was your favorite moment of the match tonight?
"
Favorite moment was the nice little behind-the-leg juke by Zarek Valentin at the end of the game that set up a nice cross. I've never met a backheel I didn't like, so loved seeing this level of skill on display."

Who would you nominate as Player of the Match?
"
Sebastián Blanco gets our vote for Man of the Match, besides scoring a fantastic equalizer, his hustle to win the ball and get stuck in on the tackle is one of our favorite things about El Matador."

What is your prediction for the next MLS match – Timbers versus Real Salt Lake?
"
Timbers 3-1"

What else should we know about your Timbers fandom? Any matchday superstitions?
Up until this year you could often find me in the press box covering matches for Timberlandia and Prost Amerika Soccer. I was also a contributing writer to Cup Bound & Crowned, the commemorative book about the Timbers MLS Cup win in 2015.

These days I've put writing on hold to be a full time soccer Dad, most days I'm watching my two boys play for Eastside Timbers as they try to follow in Marco Farfan's footsteps and become homegrown players for the Timbers someday.

My matchday superstition is I always have to wear my green and gold adidas kicks. Darlington Nagbe scored a great goal the first time I wore them, so they are my good luck charm forevermore (at least until the soles wear out)."

Congratulations Brennan and Yvonne! And thank you for your continued support!
