Diego Valeri nominated for 2018 "Best MLS Player" ESPY

Portland Timbers midfielder Diego Valeri is one of four finalists for the 2018 ESPY for “Best MLS Player.”


Valeri, the reigning MLS MVP, is joined by Chicago Fire’s Nemanja Nicolić and two players from Sporting Kansas City in Tim Melia and Ike Opara among the nominees.


During his MVP campaign in 2017, Valeri recorded 21 goals and 11 assists, becoming just the second player in MLS history to have 20 or more goals and 10 or more assists in the same season. His combined 32 goals and assists lead all of MLS last season and he was named an MLS All-Star and to the MLS Best XI. Valeri currently leads the 2018 Timbers in scoring with six goals and three assists. 


Additionally, Portland Thorns FC goalkeeper Adrianna Franch is nominated for the 2018 ESPY for “Best NWSL Player.”


The 2018 ESPYS take place Wednesday, July 18, and will air live from the the Microsoft Theater in downtown Los Angeles on ABC.
