International Notebook | Rodríguez scores for Costa Rica, Thorns' Morgan Weaver makes her USWNT debut

Down 1-0 at halftime, Thorns midfielder Rocky Rodríguez scored a goal and Costa Rica rebounded to win 5-2 over Nicaragua yesterday in an international friendly.

In Mexico City, Christine Sinclair played 81 minutes for Canada as they closed out their memorable 2021 campaign with a scoreless draw against their Mexican hosts.

In their final international match of 2021, the U.S. drew 1-1 in a friendly against Australia in front of an electric capacity crowd in Newcastle. Thorns Lindsey Horan played the full 90 in the match with teammates Morgan Weaver coming on in the 70th minute and Becky Sauerbrunn appearing in the 84th.

The USA concludes 2021 with a 17-2-5 record.

Nov. 28 Update:

While the NWSL season is finished, a number of Thorns FC players were busy with international duty over the long weekend.

Forward Morgan Weaver made her international debut coming on in the 74th minute for the U.S. as the Americans defeated Australia 3-0 in Sydney on Nov. 26. Midfielder Lindsey Horan wore the captain's armband for the USWNT and scored a penalty kick in the 68th minute of the match which also saw defender Becky Sauerbrunn come on in the 84th minute.

The U.S. finish their 2021 campaign with a final friendly on Nov. 30 against Australia in Newcastle (1:05am PT, ESPN).

In UEFA World Cup qualifier played in Gothenberg, Natalia Kuikka played the full 90 but her Finland side lost 2-1 to Sweden on Nov. 25. Finland still sit in second place in Group A which puts them in the running for a playoff route to qualification.

In Mexico, Christine Sinclair played the opening 45 minutes for Canada as they lost 2-1 to Mexico in a friendly in Mexico City on Nov. 27. They'll take on Mexico again on Nov. 30 (2:30pm PT).

Finally, midfielder Rocky Rodriguez and Costa Rica will take on Nicaragua in a friendly on Nov. 30 (5pm PT).
