MATCH PREVIEW


Playing their second away match in five days, the Portland Timbers will travel to face the Colorado Rapids in league play on Saturday, June 17. Beginning at 6:30 p.m. (Pacific), the match against Colorado will be broadcast live on ROOT SPORTS with with local radio broadcasts on 750 AM/102.9 FM The Game (English) and La GranD 1150 AM/93.5 FM (Spanish). Portland enters Saturday’s match with just one loss in its last seven league games (4-1-2) against the Rapids, with both teams splitting results in three games played last season (1-1-1). Colorado (4-8-1, 13pts) ventures into Saturday’s contest coming off consecutive wins in league play, defeating Columbus Crew SC 2-1 on June 3 and Sporting Kansas City 1-0 on May 27. Most recently, the Rapids are coming off a 3-2 comeback win against OKC Energy FC in Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup play on Tuesday, June 13.

Saturday’s match between Portland and Colorado marks the 17th meeting in the all-time MLS series between the two teams. Portland enters the match with just one loss in its last seven regular-season games (4-1-2) against Colorado and has lost just twice against the Western Conference side in league play since March 30, 2013. At Dick’s Sporting Goods Park, the Timbers are unbeaten in three of their last four matches against the Rapids in Commerce City, Colo. In two away matches against Colorado last season, Portland battled the Rapids to a 0-0 draw on July 4, 2016, before falling 1-0 in a tightly contested road match on Oct. 1, 2016.

Colorado enters Saturday’s match coming off a 3-2 comeback win against OKC Energy FC in the fourth round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup on Tuesday, June 13. Prior to the match against OKC Energy FC, the Rapids produced consecutive wins in league play, defeating Columbus Crew SC 2-1 on June 3 and Sporting Kansas City 1-0 on May 27.
