The Portland Timbers will hit the road for the final time in the regular season, traveling to face the San Jose Earthquakes at Avaya Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 30. Beginning at 7:30 p.m. (Pacific), the match against San Jose will be broadcast live on PDX TV (KPDX). Entering Saturday’s match, the Timbers are coming off a 3-0 clean-sheet win against Eastern Conference club Orlando City SC at Providence Park on Sept. 24. With the win, the Timbers have scored in 18 straight league games, which ranks as the longest current streak in MLS. The San Jose Earthquakes enter Saturday’s match coming off a 4-1 midweek loss to the Chicago Fire at Avaya Stadium on Wednesday. The result against Chicago marked just the second home loss for the Earthquakes in 2017.


LAST MATCH RECAP


The Portland Timbers defeated Orlando City SC 3-0 before a sold-out crowd of 21,144 fans at Providence Park on Sunday night, with the team winning its fourth straight home game since Aug. 6. Diego Valeri scored a brace in the win, becoming the first midfielder in MLS history to score 20 goals in a season.

Dating back to 1975, the Timbers are 23-17-7 against the San Jose Earthquakes across all competitions, including a 8-3-7 mark in MLS regular-season action. Saturday’s game marks the third and final meeting between the two clubs in 2017. In the most recent meeting between Portland and San Jose on June 2, the TImbers continued their dominant run against the California-based club at Providence Park, taking a 2-0 win to extend their unbeaten record to 7-0-3 in 10 MLS home games played against the Earthquakes. In the only match at Avaya Stadium this season, the Earthquakes took a 3-0 win on May 6.
