PORTLAND, Ore. –
The Portland Timber s U-23s held their annual player tryout over the weekend. Featuring local talent from across Oregon and the Northwest, over 40 hopefuls put their skills on display for head coach
Jim Rilatt
and his staff.
“The tryout went well,” said Rilatt. “We had a lot of local talent and it was a great opportunity to look at some players who have been out of the spotlight for a while. As the day wore on, the better players really stood out. Everyone who attended went home tired.”
The pool of tryout participants featured a mix of current college players as well as standouts in local competitive leagues. The combine was held at Gresham High School and included a full day of technical work, small sided games and competitive match play.
The development team for the Portland Timbers organization, the Timbers U-23s compete in the Northwest Division of the Premier Development League. The PDL is North America's top amateur league for players 23 years of age and younger and serves as a development ground for elite and up-and-coming players. A limited number of over-age players are allowed on each teams’ roster.
