Making The Case: Jack Jewsbury for 2011 MLS All-Star Game

Jack Jewsbury #2, Timbers vs. Rapids, 6.11.11

With just over a week to go in voting for the Starting XI in the 2011 MLS All-Star Game against Manchester United, we’re pulling out all the stops by featuring each of our Timbers nominees.

First on the list is Timbers captain and central midfielder Jack Jewsbury. A nine year veteran—the past eight of which were in Kansas City—Jewsbury has over 200 career MLS matches to his credit. Part of the Kansas City team that won the 2004 Western Conference Championship and the U.S. Open Cup that same year, he was traded to the Timbers in the preseason and days later was handed the captain’s armband for his leadership and poise.

Only 15 games into this 2011 season, Jewsbury has already tied his career high in goals (four) and is one off his best in assists (six). A free kick maestro, the midfielder has also been key to the Timbers developing one of the most efficient set piece attacks in the league.
