MATCH RECAP | Portland Timbers 3, Philadelphia Union 0

PORTLAND, Ore. – Diego Valeri's goal and assist along with a penalty from Dairon Asprilla and a late header from David Guzmán earned the Timbers a 3-0 win over the Philadelphia Union Saturday night at Providence Park. The victory stretched Portland's unbeaten streak to 15 games, tying their MLS club record.

Timbers goalkeeper Jeff Attinella made three saves as he and the team earned their sixth clean sheet of the 2018 season.

Match Moments

23' - SAVE (POR) - The Union, moving forward in attack, got a moment free with forward C.J. Sapong trying to curl a shot on frame. Timbers goalkeeper Jeff Attinella calmly dove to his right to catch the ball.

34' - CHANCE (POR) - Portland midfielder Diego Chara, sprung forward on a nice throughball, burst past his defenders before tapping a ball back to Andy Polo at the top of the six. Polo's shot went just over the bar.

43' - CHANCE (POR) - Samuel Armenteros slipped a ball through to Diego Valeri into the Philly box. Valeri cut the ball back, beat his man but his shot rolled wide of the right post.

46' - SAVE (POR) - Philadelphia came into the area with Sapong leading a give-and-go. His final shot forced a kick-save from Attinella before the Portland defense then cleared the ball away.

51' - SAVE (POR) - Attinella came up big in the 51st minute when he denied a point-blank shot from Union forward Marcus Epps.

58' - GOAL (POR) - Valeri gave the Timbers a 1-0 lead when he hit a penalty kick right down the middle past Blake who had incorrectly guessed right. The goal was Valeri's team-leading eighth of the year. The Timbers were awarded the penalty moments earlier when Valeri sent a ball through to Alvas Powell on the right. Powell sped into the box past Philly defender Fabinho who hooked his arm and pulled him down. Referee Alan Kelly immediately pointed to the spot whereupon Valeri scored his eighth goal of the season.

84' - GOAL (POR) - The Timbers doubled their lead when they were awarded another penalty in the 83rd minute as Philadelphia's Auston Trusty tripped up Valeri in the box. This time, Dairon Asprilla stepped to the spot and hit his shot into the lower left corner for a 2-0 Portland lead.

87' - GOAL (POR) - Midfielder David Guzmán made it 3-0 for Portland when he nodded home a perfectly placed free kick from Valeri in the 87th minute.
