MATCH RECAP | Portland Timbers lose close match 3-2 to San Jose Earthquakes

SAN JOSE, Calif. – Despite goals from Cristhian Paredes and Bill Tuiloma, the Portland Timber lost 3-2 to the San Jose Earthquakes Wednesday night at PayPal Park.

11' - CHANCE (POR) - Yimmi Chara pounced on a deflected ball outside the SJ box and did a clever give-and-go with Santiago Moreno to get free in the box but his shot was high over the bar.

18' - GOAL (POR) - The Timbers took a 1-0 lead in the 18th minute when Marvin Loría's corner kick found Cristhian Paredes to flick on a header underneath the crossbar and into the back of the net.

24' - CHANCE (POR) - SJ goalkeeper J.T. Marcinkowski was a little casual with a back pass that forward Nathan Fogaça raced into pressure and almost knocked away but Marcinkowski managed to pass away out of trouble.

28' - CHANCE (POR) - Y. Chara forced a turnover just inside the center circle and passed quickly to Fogaça for a 2-on-1 attack. Fogaça fired a swerving shot from 25-yards out that narrowly missed the right post.

31' - GOAL (SJ) - Earthquakes forward Jeremy Ebobisse, dribbling along the near side of the 18-yard box, spun and crossed a ball into the middle that Jackson Yueill made a diving header to tie the score at 1-1.

34' - CHANCE (POR) - Fogaça fought for a turnover from an SJ defender where Y. Chara collected the loose ball to pass out to his left for Paredes. Paredes went in direct on goal but his shot was saved by Marcinkowski.

37' - SAVE (POR) - Goalkeeper Aljaz Ivacic got down to make a diving save on a curling free kick from Quakes midfielder Cristian Espinoza.

44' - GOAL (SJ) - The Earthquakes took a 2-1 lead as they broke out on a counterattack following a Portland corner kick, with Cade Cowell passing to Jamiro Montero to slot it inside the right post.

54' - CHANCE (POR) - Defender Bill Tuiloma curled a 30-yard free kick around the outside of the SJ wall towards the far post but Marcinkowski dove to parry the ball away.

56' - GOAL (POR) - Moments later, Tuiloma equalized for Portland when he leaped high to head in a corner kick delivery from Eryk Williamson and make the score 2-2.

78' - CHANCE (POR) - Portland sped upfield with a counter attack as a ball was sprayed out wide right to Williamson. Williamson found Fogaça centrally atop the box but his shot was saved by Marcinkowski.

80' - GOAL (SJ) - San Jose went up 3-2 when a rolled in cross from Espinoza deflected off some traffic in front of the net where Montero then tapped in the loose ball.
