MATCH RECAP | Portland Timbers upend San Jose Earthquakes with 2-1 win

PORTLAND, Ore. – Jaroslaw Niezgoda and Dairon Asprilla each scored second-half goals as the Portland Timbers came from behind to defeat the San Jose Earthquakes 2-1 Saturday night at Providence Park and extend Portland's unbeaten streak to seven straight matches.

Match Moments

1' - CHANCE (POR) - Just after kicking off, Portland worked the ball down the left side before centering it for Marvin Loría to tee up a shot from just outside the box but high.

4' - CHANCE (POR) - Dairon Asprilla, sprung forward in the left channel, hit a hard, right-footed shot that went just wide of the left post.

9' - SAVE (POR) - Goalkeeper Aljaz Ivacic dove to his left to make a finger-tip save on a low, curling shot from San Jose's Cristian Espinoza.

14' - CHANCE (POR) - On a push forward started by some great footwork from Eryk Williamson that saw him ghost by two Quakes players, Portland eventually got the ball to Asprilla on the left who cut inside and fired but missed to the left of the goal.

24' - CHANCE (POR) - Williamson curled a free kick from the far sideline into the mixer. It was pushed out to Josecarlos Van Rankin at the edge of the area but his hard shot was blocked up high. Asprilla won the header and looped his attempt narrowly over the crossbar.

27' - SAVE (POR) - Ivacic made a brilliant one-handed reaction save to jump high and deny a header from San Jose's Marcos López following a Quakes' corner kick.

42' - GOAL (SJ) - On a set piece in Portland's end, the Quakes shot on goal but Ivacic made a diving save. Defender Larrys Mabiala tried to clear the ball but San Jose's Benji Kikanovic knocked it into the back of the net to put the visitors up 1-0.

45+2' - CHANCE (POR) - On a Portland corner kick, the ball bounced free to Loría who took a shot that deflected off a San Jose player and rolled wide of the left post.

53' - GOAL (POR) - Portland tied the match in the 53rd minute. Dario Zuparic tapped ahead a free kick to Diego Chara. D. Chara darted forward with a give an go with Williamson before shooting. The ball deflected off of Jaroslaw Niezgoda and in to tie the game at 1-1.

69' - CHANCE (POR) - The Timbers raced forward on the break with Asprilla and Niezgoda combining down the left side. The ball eventually fell to Niezgoda who cut back on his defender and shot, forcing a kick-save from San Jose goalkeeper J.T. Marcinkowski.

71' - GOAL (POR) - The Timbers tallied the go-ahead goal lead when Santiago Moreno spied Asprilla lurking on the back post. Moreno served the ball up on a platter for Asprilla to leap high and head into the right side for a 2-1 lead for Portland.

86' - SAVE (POR) - Ivacic swatted down a close-range shot from SJ's Cade Cowell to help keep the Timbers in the lead.

87' - CHANCE (POR) - Down the other way, Claudio Bravo zipped a cross to Felipe Mora inside the six-yard box to flick on frame forcing a sprawling save from Marcinkowski.

89' - SAVE (POR) - Ivacic dove to full extension to his right to get just a touch on an attempt from SJ's Espinoza to push the ball off the far post before Portland's defense cleared it away.
