MATCH RECAP | Y. Chara with goal as Portland Timbers draw 1-1 with LA Galaxy

CARSON, Calif. – Yimmi Chara scored in the 38th minute and the Portland Timbers returned from international break to earn a 1-1 draw with the LA Galaxy Saturday afternoon at Dignity Health Sports Park.

Match Moments

5' - CHANCE (POR) - Forward Jaroslaw Niezgoda pushed forward down right channel before getting the ball to midfielder Sebastían Blanco. Blanco then cut a ball back to Santiago Moreno who fired a shot but LA goalkeeper Jonathan Bond parried it out for a corner kick.

11' - SAVE (POR) - Portland goalkeeper Aljaz Ivacic made an acrobatic diving save to deny a swerving free kick attempt from Galaxy midfielder Víctor Vázquez.

13' - CHANCE (POR) - Blanco sent a dangerous ball in front of goal from a free kick on the edge of the area. Niezgoda got a foot to it but pushed his attempt wide right.

16' - SAVE (POR) - Ivacic came up big moments later when he denied a point blank shot from Vázquez just atop the six-yard box.

38' - GOAL (POR) - The Timbers took a 1-0 lead in the 38th minute when they burst out on a breakneck counter attack with Cristhian Paredes springing Blanco on the left side. Blanco slipped a pass ahead to a sprinting Yimmi Chara who took a touch inside the 18-yard box and slotted his shot into the lower left corner of the net.

62' - CHANCE (POR) - Blanco, along the left sideline, chipped a diagonal ball to the center for Y. Chara. Bond came off his line to try for the ball but Chara managed to chip him only to have his shot saved by a Galaxy defender racing back to knock away.

86' - SAVE (POR) - Ivacic was alert to knock down and gather a hard shot taken by LA's Derrick Williams from just outside the area.

88' - GOAL (LA) - The Galaxy, pushing for an equalizer, tied the game at 1-1 when a cross on the right side from Julian Araujo to the near post was headed in by Dejan Joveljic.
