NASL Flashback: Former NASL Portland Timbers star Clyde Best receives honor in Bermuda | The Backcut

Clyde Best, Timbers NASL

Forward Clyde Best, who played over 100 games over the course of five seasons for the NASL Portland Timbers, is one of Bermuda's best-known athletes. He started his pro career with West Ham United as one of the first black footballers in Great Britain before coming to the U.S. to play with the Tampa Bay Rowdies and then later becoming a key striker for the Timbers.

His career also saw him play in The Netherlands, help grow the game the United States, and earn him an MBE honor in the British Commonwealth for his accomplishments in soccer as well as services to Bermuda. This past weekend, however, saw Best receive a special recognition back in his native Bermuda. In his hometown of Somerset, Clyde Best Lane was unveiled as a special tribute to the footballing legend.

Bernews.com has some excellent photos and a video of the ceremony where an emotional Best humbly accepts the honor. Congratulations to a Best!
