NWSL HIGHLIGHTS | Morgan Weaver with goal as Thorns draw Reign 1-1

PORTLAND, Ore. – Forward Morgan Weaver's third minute goal was offset by a questionable second half penalty call against Portland and Thorns FC drew 1-1 with OL Reign Wednesday evening at Providence Park.

3' - GOAL (POR) - The Thorns jumped out to an early 1-0 lead as forward Sophia Smith made a great turn outside the box, split two Reign defenders and slipped a ball to forward Morgan Weaver on her right. Weaver, with her back to goal, turned and slotted her shot into the left corner.

21' - CHANCE (POR) - Midfielder Rocky Rodríguez picked off an errant Reign pass in their own end and, spying goalkeeper Sarah Bouhaddi off her line, chipped a shot from 35 yards out that narrowly missed the upper left 90 of the opponent's net.

30' - CHANCES (POR) - Weaver received a cutback ball near the top of the box that she fired just wide of the right post. On the ensuing goal kick, Portland picked off the pass forward and Smith hit a shot just wide of the left.

32' - CHANCE (POR) - Portland kept the pressure forward with some possession around the Reign 18-yard box. Forward Christine Sinclair squared a ball for midfielder Angela Salem. Salem took a touch and tried a shot from distance that went narrowly wide left.

44' - CHANCE (POR) - Defender Meghan Klingenberg lofted a cross from the left towards the penalty spot for midfielder Lindsey Horan but her header skimmed outside the left post.

60' - CHANCE (POR) - Sinclair, with space near the Reign arc, hit a curler that went just around the right post.

67' - CHANCE (POR) - On a Thorns counter upfield, a loose ball fell for Rodríguez but her shot was wide left.

86' - PK GOAL (OLR) - After a controversial hand ball call in the box made against Salem, Reign midfielder Megan Rapinoe converted her penalty attempt to tie the game at 1-1.

The Thorns next take to the road to play the Houston Dash on Sunday, Oct. 17 (4pm PT, Paramount+).
