The Portland Timbers have clinched a spot in the Audi 2025 MLS Cup Playoffs today following a combination of match results across the league this weekend..
It marks the second straight year and ninth time in their MLS history that Portland has qualified for the postseason. Notably, Head Coach Phil Neville has earned a spot in the playoffs in his first two seasons at the helm for Portland. In 25 postseason games played all time, the Timbers have a record of 11-7-7 with 37 goals for and 35 goals against.
With a record of 11-11-11 (44pts), the Timbers now look to finalize their playoff seeding with MLS Decision Day on Oct. 18, 2025 when they host San Diego FC at Providence Park. Kickoff, presented by Providence, is 6pm PT (TICKETS, MLS Season Pass).
The 2025 postseason begins Wednesday, Oct. 22, with the Audi 2025 MLS Cup Playoffs Wild Card matches – a single-game elimination match in each conference between the No. 8 and No. 9 seed, which will be hosted by the higher seed. The winners will advance to the Round One Best-of-3 Series to face their respective conferences’ No. 1 seeds.
The top seven teams from each conference automatically qualify for the Round One Best-of-3 Series. All teams participating in Round One will play at least one home playoff game. Each series will see the higher seed host the first game, the lower seed host the second game, before returning, if necessary, to the higher seed’s venue for the pivotal final game.
Following the Best-of-3 series, the playoffs move to a single-elimination format culiminating with MLS Cup on Dec. 6, 2025.
