Portland Timbers Reserves visit RSL Reserves in Western Conference matchup

The Portland Timbers Reserves matchup against the Real Salt Lake Reserves in MLS Reserve League play Saturday at America First Field at 10 a.m. (Pacific).


The Timbers Reserves (4-3-2, 14pts) are currently third in the MLS Reserve League's West Division behind the Vancouver Whitecaps FC Reserves and LA Galaxy Reserves.


Saturday’s match between the Timbers Reserves and Real Salt Lake Reserves (4-3-3, 15pts) marks the first meeting between the two teams. They will face off again a week later at JELD-WEN Field on Sunday, Sept. 8 at 6 p.m. (Pacific).


The Timbers Reserves hit the road looking for a win after a 3-2 loss to the Whitecaps FC Reserves on Aug 4. at JELD-WEN Field. After a scoreless first half, Portland’s Jose Valencia recorded the first goal of the game off a penalty kick. However, the lead ended just one minute later as it was followed by two Vancouver goals from Tommy Heinemann and Erik Hurtado in the 53rd and 56th minutes, respectively. Portland was able to tie it up late in the game with a goal from defender Rauwshan McKenzie, however, Vancouver solidified the win with a third goal as a result of a penalty kick in the 86th minute.


In their last match, the Real Salt Lake Reserves came away with a 3-2 win at America First Field against the Whitecaps FC Reserves. Trailing 2-1 in the 84 minute, Real Salt Lake scored two goals in the last six minutes to pull off the comeback win.
