Venezuelan forward departs Portland after joining the club in 2025
PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland Timbers have transferred forward Kevin Kelsy to Rangers FC of the Scottish Premiership, it was announced today. Portland will retain a future sell-on percentage as part of the deal.
“While these decisions are always difficult, this was an opportunity that made sense for all involved. The return allows us to be aggressive over the next six to 12 months and acquire new young emerging talent, and it is a step in Kevin’s career with the ambition to reach the highest level,” said Timbers General Manager Ned Grabavoy. “This is further testimony to our club’s ability to provide opportunities and commit to supporting the development of these young players on and off the field. We wish Kevin great success, and look forward to watching his progress from afar.”
Kelsy, 22, recorded 16 goals and six assists in 53 appearances (32 starts) since his arrival to Portland in January 2025. The 2026 campaign marked his best in MLS, leading the Timbers in goals (9) while adding four assists through 20 matches played.
Portland acquired Kelsy from Ukrainian top-flight side FC Shakhtar Donetsk ahead of the 2025 season for a transfer fee after trading $75,000 in 2025 General Allocation Money (GAM) to FC Cincinnati in exchange for his Right of First Refusal.
