Quick Strikes, Timbers vs. Real Salt Lake, 7.19.17

Returning to league play, the Portland Timbers will match up with Real Salt Lake Wednesday night at Providence Park (7:30pm PT, ROOT SPORTS). Here are five numbers to know for #PORvRSL in the latest edition of Quick Strikes.

8 The Timbers are unbeaten in their last eight matches against Real Salt Lake with four wins. In those eight matches, Portland has shut out RSL on five different occasions.

96 Since the beginning of the 2013 season, no active MLS player has more combined goals and assists than Diego Valeri. The midfielder has 47 goals to go with his 49 assists for a combined total of 96.

18 Only one Western Conference team (Houston Dynamo) has scored more than the 18 first-half goals scored by the Timbers in 2017. By contrast, Real Salt Lake has scored the fewest (6) and conceded the most (24) goals among all MLS teams in the first half of matches this season.

51 Since his MLS debut in May of 2014, Fanendo Adi has scored 51 regular season goals for Portland. That is third-most in MLS since his debut behind only 2016 MLS MVP David Villa and the runner-up for that award, Bradley Wright-Phillips.

1998 Both head coaches in Wednesday's match were drafted in the 1998 MLS College Draft. RSL manager Mike Petke was drafted by the MetroStars with the eighth pick while Timbers head coach Caleb Porter was selected by the San Jose Clash at pick 27.
