Quick Strikes | Timbers face LAFC for second consecutive year in U.S. Open Cup

Brian Fernandez #2, Timbers vs. LAFC, 6.1.19

The Portland Timbers face Los Angeles FC in the 2019 U.S. Open Cup Quarterfinals at Banc of California Stadium on Wednesday (7:30pm PT, ESPN+). Here are five numbers to know for #LAFCvPOR in a special U.S. Open Cup edition of Quick Strikes.

9 Since the 2013 season, Portland has nine wins over MLS teams in the competition. Only Sporting Kansas City has defeated more MLS opponents in U.S. Open Cup play in that timespan.

4 In the last round of the competition, the Timbers knocked off the LA Galaxy, 4-0. The four-goal margin of the victory is tied for the biggest win in the U.S. Open Cup this season by any team.

33 Wednesday's match will be the 33rd U.S. Open Cup match the Timbers have played since first playing in the competition in 2004. LAFC is the sixth different team Portland has played in multiple matches in the Cup.

4/5 Starting with the victory over the Galaxy in the Round of 16, the Timbers have delivered shutouts in four of their last five matches across all competitions. The Timbers have outscored opponents by an 11-2 margin in those five matches.

3X2 The Timbers are one of three teams to have reached the quarterfinals of the U.S. Open Cup. Portland joins its opponent, LAFC, and Orlando City as clubs with consecutive quarterfinal appearances.
