Evander, Jonathan Rodríguez with goals; Portland earns first clean sheet of 2024
AUSTIN, Texas – A golazo from midfielder Evander, a penalty kick goal from forward Jonathan Rodríguez and a key penalty kick stop from goalkeeper James Pantemis earned the Portland Timbers their first clean sheet of the season as they defeated Austin FC 2-0 Wednesday night at Q2 Stadium.
The victory was Portland's second in a row and snapped Austin's five-game home win streak.
Evander, Rodríguez Strike Again
Evander recorded his seventh goal of the season in his 12th appearance (11th start) tonight, tying Felipe Mora for the team lead. The Brazilian midfielder has contributed to five goals (3G, 2A) in the club’s last four matches, bringing his season total to 13 goal contributions (7G, 6A). Notably, the goal was his first scored as a direct free kick. Jonathan Rodríguez tallied his sixth goal of the season and first as a penalty kick.
