The new U.S. Soccer Girls Development Academy and Portland Thorns Academy teams kicked off their inaugural season on Sept. 2 as the Thorns Academy played host to La Roca Futbol Club in Portland, Ore.
The Thorns FC U-18s earned a 1-1 draw as Emma Anderson provided the equalizer early in the second half.
Both the U-14 and U-16 teams were edged out by a 3-2 margin in their matches. Fatima Brotherson-Erriche notched a brace for the U-14s, while Paige Alexander and Jacqueline Blakeley tallied goals for the U-16s. In addition, the U-15s suffered a 2-0 loss in their first match of the season.
