Four Thorns FC players featured in week four of Australia's Westfield W-League action, two of whom found the back of the net for their Australian club sides.
Raso proved the heroine for Brisbane, as her deflected shot from 12 yards out bounced inside the far post, netting the 23-year-old striker a 86th minute game-winner. Boureille connected for 57 passes in the game with a passing accuracy of 80.7%, while also letting off a shot during the match. With the late goal and subsequent win, Raso maintains the Roar’s positioning atop the W-League standings.
On Friday, Ashleigh Sykes’ Canberra United traveled to meet Britt Eckerstrom’s Newcastle Jets at No. 2 Sportsground, where the visitors defeated Newcastle by a final score of 2-1. Newcastle took a 1-0 lead in the opening minutes of the game, however three minutes after the break, Sykes netted the equalizer—her first goal of the season. After receiving a pass off the boot of Grace Maher, Sykes took a touch inside the area before pushing the ball past Eckerstrom from close range.
Sykes’ Canberra United emerged victorious thanks to a 65th minute goal from Toni Pressley, moving them to 2-1-0 on the season and into a share of second place.
Emily Sonnett’s Sydney FC played to a 3-2 victory over Melbourne City FC on Friday but the Thorns FC defender did not appear for the Sky Blues after recently returning to the club following international play.
