Portland Thorns FC and Your Local Toyota Dealers are partnering to honor difference-makers in the Portland community throughout the 2019 NWSL season. For the October 12 match, we are proud to honor Maura Milder. Maura is a Southwest native and a globe-trekker with many diverse experiences including climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro self-supported. She is an accomplished educator with Ecology in Classrooms and Outdoors (ECO), a local nonprofit whose mission is to inspire students to care for nature and their local communities through hands-on science education. Maura harnesses her own curiosity and wonder for our beautiful Pacific Northwest environment by developing place-based curriculum and teaching students in Portland Metro school districts. In addition to teaching day to day, Maura is the program coordinator for ECO's summer camp, a unique garden-based learning program encouraging children ages 5-12 to mindfully engage with their immediate surroundings. Maura is thrilled to be part of the ECO Team putting in play cutting edge concepts and knowledge she learns as she completes her Master's in Leadership for Sustainability Education at Portland State University.
