Thorns FC's Alex Morgan, Tobin Heath, Rachel Van Hollebeke named to U.S. Women's National Team roster for training camp

PORTLAND, Ore. – Portland Thorns FC forward Alex Morgan, midfielder Tobin Heath and defender Rachel Van Hollebeke were named to the 25-player U.S. Women’s National Team roster for a training camp in Los Angeles, it was announced today.


The training camp will take place at the U.S. Soccer National Training Center in Carson, Calif., from March 23-30. The team will then depart for St. Louis and continue preparations before facing New Zealand on April 4, at Busch Stadium; kickoff is set for 12:30 p.m. (Pacific). The match will be shown live on FOX Sports 1. Head coach Jill Ellis will name 18 players to the game day roster.


Morgan, 25, appeared in 14 matches (13 starts) for Thorns FC after during the 2014 NWSL season, recording six goals and four assists. The U.S. Women’s National Team forward has appeared in all six matches (all starts) for the United States in 2015, scoring two goals and recently reaching the 50-goal career milestone in a 1-0 win over England on Feb. 18.


Heath, 26, made five appearances (all starts) for Thorns FC during the 2014 regular season. The U.S. Women’s National Team midfielder has appeared in four matches for the United States in 2015, making two starts. Heath appeared in three matches at the Algarve Cup, helping the United States claim the tournament championship.


Van Hollebeke, 29, appeared in 12 matches (9 starts) during the 2014 regular season with Thorns FC. The U.S. Women’s National Team defender played in her first match for the United States since April 2014, starting and logging 90 against Iceland at the Algarve Cup.
