Emily Sonnett, Lindsey Horan, USWNT

PORTLAND, Ore. – Portland Thorns FC midfielder Lindsey Horan and defender Emily Sonnett have been named to the 26-player preliminary U.S. Women’s National Team roster for a week of training, starting Feb. 19 in Orlando, Fla., it was announced today.


The USWNT plays host to the SheBelieves Cup for a third consecutive year with matches against Germany, France and England. Head coach Jill Ellis will name the final 23-player tournament roster near the end of training camp before the team departs to begin tournament play.


The opening games of the tournament will take place March 1 at MAPFRE Stadium in Columbus, Ohio, as the United States squares off against Germany at 4 p.m. (Pacific) on ESPN2. In its second game, the USWNT takes on France at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, N.J.; kickoff is set for 9 a.m. (Pacific) on ESPN2. The United States concludes the tournament against England on March 7 at Orlando City Stadium in Orlando at 4 p.m. (Pacific) on ESPNews.


Horan (44 caps) and Sonnett (13 caps) both made appearances for the United States in a 5-1 win against Denmark on Jan. 21 at SDCCU Stadium in San Diego. Horan started and logged 90 minutes in the victory, while Sonnett entered the match as a second-half substitute.
