Portland sends midfielders Emily Ogle, Gabby Seiler to Houston

PORTLAND, Ore. – Portland Thorns FC today announced that the club has acquired the seventh pick and the 37th pick in the 2021 NWSL Draft from the Houston Dash in exchange for midfielders Emily Ogle and Gabby Seiler.

“We appreciate Emily and Gabby’s commitment and contributions to the club and wish them well as they continue their careers in Houston,” said Gavin Wilkinson, Thorns FC general manager and president of soccer. “Acquiring these additional draft picks gives the club valuable assets as we continue to finalize the roster.”

Ogle, 24, was the 24th overall pick by Portland in the 2019 NWSL College Draft out of Penn State. During her time with Thorns FC, Ogle appeared in eight matches (2 starts) across all competitions. In 2020, Ogle featured in five games, making two appearances in the NWSL Challenge Cup and three in the Fall Series.

“Emily has been a great teammate and developed a considerable amount during her time with our club,” said Thorns FC head coach Mark Parsons. “We are very grateful for her dedication in Portland and excited to see her take on this next challenge in Houston.”

The No. 9 pick in the 2018 NWSL College Draft out of the University of Florida, Seiler, 26, played in 20 matches, making 13 starts across all competitions in two seasons (2019-20) with Thorns FC. During the 2020 campaign, Seiler appeared in four games during the Challenge Cup and one game in the Fall Series.

“Gabby has shown incredible resilience and determination since we drafted her in 2018,” said Parsons. “We are happy that we are able to facilitate this opportunity for Gabby to be closer to her family and look forward to seeing her progress in Houston.”

Portland currently has the No. 7, No. 12, No. 22, No. 32 and No. 37 picks in the 2021 NWSL Draft, which will take place on Wednesday, Jan. 13, at 4 p.m. (Pacific) via a live stream on Twitch.
