PORTLAND, Ore.— The Portland Timbers today announced Sports Medicine Oregon will be the official team doctors of the Major League Soccer club as it marks its inaugural season in 2011.
The team of official Timbers doctors will consist of team medical director, Dr. Jonathan E. Greenleaf and team physicians, Dr. Richard H. Edelson and Dr. Kevin J. Murphy. The doctors were team physicians previously for the Portland Timbers USL team.
In practice for over 15 years, Sports Medicine Oregon was the first clinic in the area dedicated specifically to sports medicine. The physicians are fellowship trained at top ranked teaching centers and lecture both nationally and internationally. The group has a long history of working with local high school athletes and high level elite athletes.
Dr. Greenleaf is a board certified orthopaedic surgeon who is fellowship trained in sports medicine and pediatric orthopaedics. Although he treats a wide variety of orthopaedic patients, Dr. Greenleaf is especially skilled in arthroscopic treatment of knees and shoulders and is a master instructor in both knee and shoulder surgery.
Dr. Edelson is a board certified orthopaedic surgeon who is fellowship trained in sports medicine. His practice includes a wide range or orthopaedic and sports injuries, with a primary focus on arthroscopic surgery of knees and shoulders.
Dr. Murphy is a board certified orthopaedic surgeon with fellowship training in sports medicine. He has a special clinical interest in the care and rehabilitation of injured athletes of all ages. Dr. Murphy’s surgical expertise includes arthroscopic surgery, joint replacement and orthopaedic trauma.
