The Portland Timbers conclude a two-game road trip as they take on Miami FC. Tonight’s match is the first of two regular-season meetings between the two clubs and marks Portland’s only scheduled visit to South Florida during the 2010 campaign.
The contest against the Blues is the end of a stretch of three games in seven days for the Timbers, which began with a 1-1 draw against the Carolina RailHawks June 6 at PGE Park. Portland picked up a point on the road Wednesday with a scoreless draw against the USL Conference leader Austin Aztex.
With a pair of draws this week, the Timbers sit in fifth place in the USL Conference, but trail the third-place Rochester Rhinos by just two points in the standings.
Portland makes is sixth trip to Miami since the Blues joined the league in 2006. The Timbers have a 2-1-2 all-time road record against the Blues, including a win and a draw in two matchups last season in Miami. Portland is unbeaten in its last four games in Miami, and suffered its lone road loss to the Blues May 12, 2006; it was the first match ever played between the two sides. The Timbers have an all-time mark of 5-3-2 against the Blues.
Tonight’s fixture is the Timbers’ fourth road match of the season. With a 0-1-2 record though their first three road games, the Timbers continue to seek their first road win on the campaign.
The Timbers face another busy stretch next week, playing three games in five days. Its starts on Tuesday at PGE Park, as Portland faces the Sonoma County Sol in the first round of the 2010 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup; kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
